In 1965 the practice was founded as the first chartered architectural firm on the island, by Captain K.J Tomlin. Tomlin is often considered the “father of architecture'“ in Barbados and much of Bridgetown display his remarkable designs. In appreciation for all his work, he received an OBE and CBE for ‘Services to Architecture’.
In the continuance of the high standards set by Captain Tomlin, his partner Andrew Voss continued to grow the studio as Tomlin Voss Associates, commemorating the name of both great architects. For 50 years we have been providing a comprehensive professional service covering all aspects of building design throughout not only the island, but also the region. Andrew Voss’ contributions to architecture within Barbados also saw him receive numerous awards throughout his lifetime, and was referred to as one of the greatest minds of the Barbadian architectural profession in the mid-late 20th century. He was also made an honorary BIA fellow in his final year.
In 2023 Tomlin Voss saw new changes with Christina Voss and Darren Harris now at the helm, as well as the official opening of our London arm. From our offices in Barbados and London, we will continue to make its mark throughout the Caribbean, as well as the United Kingdom.
Our projects cover the whole spectrum of building types from luxury residential refurbishments to ecclesial restorations, and to multi-million dollar commercial developments. Our clients also include private organisations, governments, international agencies and commercial institutions.
While our work is aesthetically diverse, our projects are linked by a focus on enhancing human relationships through good architecture and design.
